Can you please describe Kosher ?

I am aware like muslims Jews are forbidden to eat Pork ( Ham & bacon).

We muslims are forbidden to eat Swine/pig fats and by products too, is it the same for jews ?

Could you also tell me if any other kind of Meat is forbidden for the Jews ?

And what is the method used by Jews to slaughter animals for food ?
And if the jews recite any form of Prayer at the time of slaughter ?
If yes what is the prayer in word/sentences ?

Thank You & best wishes.
Maheen

pork is one of the things we can not eat, nor can we eat any thing that comes from pork.
it is part of a larger prohibition on animals
here is a link that lists prohibited animals in kashrut
http://www.jewfaq.org/kashrut.htm#Animals

kosher butchering is performed by a shochet who is not just a butcher but must be a pious man, well versed in halachah, often times they are rabbis. There is a prayer that is recited prior to the butchering, but i don't know it off the top of my head.

kosher butchering usually consists of the shochet taking a fine, sharp blade w/ no nicks or uneveness, slitting the throat in one quick, deep stroke ensuring the blood will completely drain from the animal. It is painless and ensures a quick death and is (regardless of what some animal life groups say) regarded as one of the most humane methods of animal slaughter. more here:

Thank you Jewscout !

Hey Thank you !

I have just bookmarked the links.

Its so much like Islam We also are told by Allah & His Prophet Muhammad to slaughter in the same way with the blood to be drained completely as actually then it is less harmful medically.

For us we too are allowed only fish with scales.
And shell fish ... crabs, shrimps, prawns etc are Makru ( not totally forbidden but better avoided ).

In Pakistan though people eat shell fish with not much fuss.
I personally avoid eating what ever is Makru.

Muslims cannot eat predators of land, sea or air.

Our slaughtering is done by any person who is capable of carrying out the task but He needs to recite Allah's name at the time of slaughter.

Do you know as a rule in life when abroad i feel so much comfort to eat someplace where there are Jews. I have always found Jews very helpful .

We also are forbidden to eat in utensils which have been in contact with Haraam ( forbidden ) food.

Actually if you closely study Abrahimic religions everything that is forbidden is due to medical reasons.
All the commandments are for the benefit of our health & well being.

I might be wrong but i have noticed some serious ailments like Parkinson's, Al Zeheimer's & loads of other diseases are less in ratio in muslim
countries. And some other diseases are unheard off here ...

I seriously think Swine & its by products must cause severe problems .

Thank you for your help and please do feel free to ask me anything .
How ever i will bother you again for more information.

Much love,
Maheen

Maheen,

Jews are the "people of the book" (Ahley Kitab) thats why they have many traditions and customs similar to Islam. Islam ,Christianity and Judaism are Abrahamic Religions and their religious books(scriptures) were revealed by Allah(God).

Jews are more closer to Islam than Christians because of the following things in common between them.

Both donot eat pork and only eat the animal slaughtered in the name of God.

Both believe in 1 true God.

Both cover their heads.

Both donot have concept of boy friends and girl friends and Judaism like Islam strictly disallows mixing of sexes especially the orthodox jews.

Both keep beard .

Both have religious languages that are sister languages(hebrew and arabic).

Jews say "Shalom Aalaikum" in Hebrew which means "Peace be upon you" which is quiet similar to "Asalam Aalaikum" in Arabic which means the same.

Both believe in Moses(pbuh).

Muslims fast in the month of Muharam on the 9th and 10th day like Jews.
Jews fast on the 9th day of Muharam because Torah was revealed on Moses(pbuh) on this perticular day.

Muslims also fast on the 9th and 10th of Muharram because they also believe in Moses(pbuh).

Please note that Masjid-e-Aksa was the common Qiblah for Christians ,Jews and Muslims but later on because of the revelation sent by God ,we muslims had to change our Qiblah.

I hope this helps

Kosher applies to other things right?

From what i've read, Kosher can be applied to many aspects of Jewish life, is that not so? Could you tell us more about the broader meaning of Kosher and how it impacts Jewish life? Thanks!

The Past

Israel and Islam both go back to Abraham. It would only make sense that they would share some of the same beliefs. Israel had many foods that were not kosher including some types of locust and mice or any animal with cloven hooves.
