Days of Awe
the days between Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur are known as the Days of Awe. It is believed that during this 10 day period that Hashem has open the Book of Life and is deciding, based on your actions the past year, your fate for the new year. But it is believed that during this time things can be changed to sway things in your favor (that doesn't mean that you should be muckin up all year and then try to cram in a bunch of stff during this time...bad!).
