Rev. Kelly

OK, to get this ball rolling, I am going to start us off.

I am married with two children, both boys. I drive a school bus, run a wedding ministry/business, and attend college online at University of Phoenix.

Umm...I guess at this point you get to ask me what you want to know.

Hey Kelly : ) I would like to know more about your wedding ministry. How far do you do the planning of the wedding? Do you write the vows? What makes your ministry different than/stand out from others?

I mainly focus on the ceremony itself, but since I have worked with quite a few people in the industry, I have helped couples contact other services.

I have helped couples to write their vows and I have a selection of prewritten ones that a couple can choose from. So, I guess I have done a little of both. It really depends on what the couple wants to do.

I think that I stand out because when I tell you that your ceremony is all about you, I am not just handing you a line. I have seen other ministries in my area, and they will let you choose a ceremony from a set that the minister chose, but it isn't really custom designed for you. Where as, I will send you selections from each section of a wedding ceremony (greeting, vows, blessing, readings, etc) and you could choose one of those (most people go for this option), become inspired and write your own (especially popular for vows), or ask that I help write the ceremony from scratch and give me a few ideas to base it on (have only done this twice so far).

For example, right now I am working with a couple who has been together for 20 years, and are now getting married. It is more like a vow renewal than a wedding, but quite a few of the areas have to be custom written to give this couple a wedding that reflects where they are in life. Doing it this way does make more work for me, but I think that the couple gets a much more memorable ceremony this way.

Does that answer all that you wanted to know?

If you don't mind: How did you get started in this business and how do you market your business?

In July of 2006, I was ordained by the ULC. I then started thinking about my wedding and how it was not what I wanted. I figured other brides had to be in the same frame of mind that I was, so I started Heartfelt Wedding Ceremonies. I wanted to give others the same freedom with thier weddings as I wanted with mine.

I have an ad in the local Yellow Book, a website, and several links set up with wedding planning sites such as All Wedding Planning, Wed Plan, Wedding Approved, and Bride. It gets my name out there, and I am pretty busy starting in the spring and ending in late fall.

That's great. I am happy to hear that you started a business out of a need/nitch/purpose.

If you could do this full time would you give up your bus driving job?

In a minute! Don't get me wrong, I love working with kids and find my job mostly fun, but driving in the winter with the snow and ice and extreme cold, I could really live without.

I know you have a busy life, but in your free time what do you enjoy doing, hobby wise or so?

I like to read books, mostly fiction, play with my boys, go hiking, camping, and fishing. I love to shop, which is a hobby and a bad habit at the same time. LOL Acutally I keep my shopping in check for the most part.
