Smudging
Smudging is the burning of certain herbs and then blowing out the flame so that the herbs will smolder on producing smoke. It is generally used for purification; ceremonially or not.
Does anyone here smudge on a regular basis? If so what do you use and for what purpose and how?

Personally, I smudge to 'clean house'. I typically use white sage, but have been known to use sweet grass or cedar greens. (The type of cedar doesn't truly matter but I prefer White Cedar from home aka NH)
I will generally start by cleansing myself with the smoke, wafting it to my face and down the front of my body all the way to my feet, Then make a vain attempt to smudge behind me. Sometimes I will use just my hand to do this or other times I will use loose feathers or even my own dancing fan which is the wing off a white turkey. Then I will proceed to fan smoke into all the corners of my home typically following the compass points of N, E, S, and W. I do not tend to say anything or do anything too special in the realm of ritual, I figure whatever is out there knows what I am doing and no words need to be said. For me the purpose of smudging is to clear away the negatives, be it energy or feelings, in order to invite fresh new ideas and energy back in.

I absolutely LOVE the smell of sage in my house...though the first few times I did it I had to explain to the beau just what "that smell" was. Hahaha. Now he likes it too.

Ever tried Eucalyptus? Being a florist, left over dried bits of 'natural' eucalyptus are easy to come by. You can probably go into any florist as ask for some...just not that dried, dyed, spiral stuff...My mom the asthmatic even likes that one.
