Questioning

I agree. It's one of the main tenets of my faith. But there is a down side to this brutal questioning. You may get an answer you were not prepared for. I would suggest not asking until you are ready to hear the answer.

Several years ago, while I was sitting in class waiting for a late professor, somebody walked up to the black board and wrote "Question Authority."

When the professor arrived, he saw the words on the board. Without saying a word, he wrote below them, "If authority answers, will you listen?"

So true! Questioning is only one half the equation. You must also be able to hear the answer.

Without questioning, personal liberty is surrendered...

I have no doubt whatever that those who would take away the right of everyone (except themselves, of course) to determine the parameters and course of their own life, must be encouraged not to question received truth.

This is true of the Catholic Church (in my view), of fundamentalist monotheisms of all sorts, and of fundamentalist or totalitarian governments.

It is only through our willingness -- and courage -- to question everything and demand to know the provenance of every morsel of so-called right-thinking, that we earn and keep the right to our individual liberty.

Stop questioning, and you will be assimilated.
