Ah, but time is cyclical, not linear! We only get to see but a small portion of the grand cycle, and witness smaller circles within -- the cycles of the moon and the sun, of the Earth, of life and death, and we see it as a straight line because we cannot see the curve.

I considered the fate of people, then nations, then planets, then gods. Either they came to an end and gave way to another; or they continued into infinity, with no ultimate reason for existing. I saw no way of assigning a god's purpose to a mortal, because I saw no purpose for the god.

At first this led me towards nihilism; but my personal reality has never been consistent with an absolute "nothingness" because of the richness of my life experiences. Eventually I came to realize that my meaning exists in the present moment, in my own awareness, and nowhere else; and now I can access it just by sitting still and experiencing the moment.
Interesting. To me, this makes Nontrin's posts all the more poignant.

Well, I thought "The Meaning of Life" was hilarious, and contains some of the Pythons' best work!
