What Is The Heart?

I attended a Christian church as a child. I remember the preachers saying that Jesus was in our "heart." I never really understood this concept. Yesterday I heard a radio minister saying the "ear" was in the center of our h"ear"t and that we hear with our heart.

What do you think this "heart" is?

In this context I think that heart refers to the stuff that makes us...well...us. Our spirit, our individuality, the center of our beings. I think that they are trying to say that we listen with all of us, not just our physical ears. What we listen to becomes part of who we are.

I once told an atheist that Jesus lives in my heart, and he told me if he could cut open my heart to see if he's actually in there! I told him that I know he lives in me because I can feel his abiding presence inside of me. To have Jesus in our heart is an idiomatic expression meaning to have a special loving relationship with him. That's my take on it!

Love,
Madeline

In this connotation, I'd say that it is that part of our mind that contains our most cherished thoughts and memories...that part that is tied in to our emotions, but not limited by them.
