Butterfly Truth;"mommy who is God?"

Honest answers to honest questions from a child , let's say 7 years old whatever .

" Mommy ,l heard today that some people don't believe in God . Why ? "
" Because they are crazy "
Just kidding , she didn't say that .
She said "I don't know why , why do you think they don't believe in God Honey ? "
And the child said ,
" When they are born they believe and then as they get older they deny the belief they once held ."
And Mom said " Really ".
And then the mom asked ,
" Will you fix the computer please Honey ? "
And the child said ,
" Sure Mom "

My point is when l was young l got a superficial answer .
But today children have a greater learning potential from the Net etc and as the Bible stated near the end people will fall away from Christianity , l think lol , or fall somewhere maybe down to Heaven whatever that means .

I work with children and they are all multi-cullteral from infant to 5-6 years old . On a Religious day we will have a , say , "Christmas" and some children are from a non-Christian family so they draw and learn of " Christmas" and when the East Indian child etc has a day to celebrate or Worship , then we do that concept of learning that day . All children at the Daycare learn without any Religious concepts being forced into them .

As a parent to a child once ,now grown up , l see it is different to answer the question" who is God ? " than as a professional in a daycare setting .It seems more sensitive and difficult to say the truth with your own child and easier to "avoid" the God issue as and in a "professional setting" as the daycare .

But in reality now right this minute who knows what to say to an inquisitive child who is thinking of death and asks Mom " what happens ? " how many will say "we go Heaven" and how many will say " i don't know Honey ".

-----------
If you say " I don't know , Honey" , you , in a Christian's belief consider then that you do know and anyone who does not follow the traditional Christian formats are going to Hell for not accepting Jesus when you were mentally and physically capable of doing so.
But if you are a Christian then you can say " we go to Heaven if we are good " .
But because your words are guided by your " Faith " are you really telling the truth to your child or a you adding a belief for your child by telling them of your belief in God . Are you in fact then not being honest with the truth or should you say " I don't know " even though that will take you out of the Christian society .

Since I am not Christian, and do not believe in forcing my personal beliefs on anyone, including my children, I will tell you what I told my son (he's 8) when he asked about it.

Son: "What happens when we die?"

Me: Honestly, honey, I don't know. I think that the soul will return to the Godess, take score on life, and come back to earth for another life. Daddy, Grandpa, and Grandma believe that you go to Heaven when you die. There are people who think that everything just ends and nothing else happens. No one knows for sure, so we all believe in different things.

Son: "Take score? Like a game?"

Me: Kinda. It is like a game, but it is to see how many of life's lessons have be learned and how to learn the ones that need to be learned yet. Does that make sense?

Son: "More like school, huh?"

Me: Yup, more like school.

Son: OK, I think I get it.

I remember this conversation because he was so thoughtful about it. I think this is the first time he seriously thought about what other people believe.

Fortyone will become famous soon enough
Answering this question seems difficult... But flip it. "Mommy, what happens when we live", or "what happens when we are born?"... Well birth leads to death and not thinking anything in Universe is fundamentally or ultimately linear I'll wager that it's a fair assumption that it's cyclical and goes the other way 'round. What happens when we "life"? We die. What happens when we die? We "life"... But don't confuse this for a belief in reincarnation because I do not fancy reincarnation at least not in the traditional "spook" sense, that is to say a continuation of a personal soul or spirit... But in as much as you, I, everyone and everything is God or this entire thing whatever it is, you cannot ever really "die" or stop existing- but this doesn't mean you carry a personal spook with "you".

As for the thread title; "Mommy, who is God", while this might not be appropriate for a small child, the ideal response to this question, "Who is God" is: "Who's asking the question, who wants to know!"... lol.

Redbird

Let's be honest . We are all liars to our children to protect them from Hurt.
When we tell our children " God is real " unless you personally have your proof of God's existance then basically you are not telling the truth because you don't know the truth and are going with Faith which was incorporated by our ancestors through written Hiistory .

Why would Jesus say that "only through Him" you can see the Kingdom of God ?

Did He really say that and why ?

Was He not telling the truth to His children just as we do to our children to put Fear into them so they do the right things in their daily lives ?

Or was their another message in His words .

This world would turn to somewhat chaos if we all told the truth to our young children .

And when you " talk around " God to a child because you do not want to tell them you don't believe in God , although the child is spared from your reality of God's existance you are not and God knows what and why you believe and only your purity of intentions will show what you trully believe , to God.

We do lie to our children because we love them .

If you were crying on your couch because you caught your spouse "making out" with your best friend , you might not want to tell your 5 year old daughter that you "kicked" daddy out of the house because of that .

You might lie and say " daddy had to go away for awhile " and you think in your mind that " because l didn't lie ,sort of ,l am safe with that answer" but NO you are not because God is there and in you and either you are using God vocabulary or something else but either way God knows where your purity of intentions in what you say and think are and you cannot avoid that no matter what "little lie" you tell your daughter , as above , because almost ,God does not hear your actual words but goes by another concept which is better than the best lie- detector test on Earth .

So then the question shifts again to "why don't we tell the whole truth in all we say and do ? "

There is a valid reason for this and it has always been this way . If Truth was known by all of Man we would all be living in Truth .
This would be then a " goal reached" by Man , and it cannot be this way and it isn't today .

We must lie .

It always has been this way and must remain this way or we all die .I know how that sounds but the Truth will kill us all , so we remain this way in Faith in an unbelievable concept on concept in comprehension we cannot collectively see .

shaw-n has a spectacular aura aboutshaw-n has a spectacular aura about
So many people either keep important knowledge from children by not telling them things, or they make something up and outright lie and so on.
Children in a person's life are important and have a right to know about the reality they live in.
They may not grasp the finer points and may not care for more than a superficial explanation, but they deserve to have a clear picture of reality presented to them by their parents and significant adults.
What is important is to paint a clear and concise picture, and if you don't know be honest and tell them that.
By treating them with such respect as little adults there will be a better bond which will develop as a result.
This isn't just my idea, I have seen it to be so.

Hi shaw-n,

The problem is , or not lol , is that a true Christian must tell their young children about Jesus and how Jesus and why Jesus "died for our sins".

Since the parents are going on Faith which is written in Books but has , apparently no proof today , the things the parents say to their young children of Jesus is actually not correct as they are going on Faith not Fact .

So the parents are sort of "fibbing" when they leave out the "Faith" part .

The reason for this is very vaild and not written in the Bible in a way we can see it although it is there .

We must "fib" to our children on certain items .

Suppose you found ten dollars on the street and you know the person ahead of you dropped the ten dollar bill because you saw it happen .
When you get home you may tell your young child you found ten dollars but you may leave out the part where you saw the person walking in front of you drop it but you kept it instead of telling that person, and giving it back to them.

We skip parts when we are honest to our children because it may be a scary thing or something we did that was not correct as in the ten dollar bill event .

When you know God is real you know of a Power so strong it is beyond comprehension but we and God are one but something happened and another factor is now involved in our lives .
We cannot be 100% honest with our children no one can because we are all sinners.Snowman1
