Messiah

Christianity has a Messiah. Judaism is waiting for the Messiah. Some religions have no Messiah. Do we need a Messiah?

Messiah- meaning annointed.. going back to annointing oils and phallic rituals... entire bodies treated as penises in elaborate ceremonies. The very word Christ from the greek cristos means oil. Ever seen a can of Crisco? Same root as Christ. Christ means oil. Do we need more phallic rituals and sacred ceremonies using holy oils? Sounds sexy but I don't think we need anything. As for a saviour... we have one. The sun. God's sun. The christian's Messiah. I've got jesus'shine on my shoulders! If he don't rise you're dead.

As for spiritual guides or spiritual saviours... Why would God need this? The "you" that you really are, is this ineffable that we often call God.

But then again, who knows? My question is does anyone ever up and proclaim themselves the Messiah coming from completely non-religious backgrounds. In other words- if you've never been taught about God and Messiah's and somehow are unaware of the current clamouring for one, or the current worshiping of one, or any sort of religious doctrines ideas concepts whathaveyou's relating to this at all... could you tell anyone that your God's son/daughter and are here to save everybody? Where does this come from? An external, real, intrusive God who wants to save his artifacts? Except the defective ones I guess. Those he just tortures for ever. Or much much more likely does it come from one's very mundane, human, ordinary if you will (and I won't but still) tradtion and upbringing... exposing one to such notions and then lo' and behold- we have a cat proclaiming himself the Messiah. Or a crazy audio-collage artist insisting that we are all actually "god" underneath. (hint: Me.) The answer might be the latter.

Words are useful but words are not reality. Words describe and refer to reality. Ultimate reality is neither physical (there is no god) or spiritual (there is a god be it the Master Technician/Potter or the universal energy type that I fancy). Ultimate reality is...

"You are ALL Messiahs. If this is a prophecy that you feel has to BE fulfilled, most likely you will see Messiahs wherever you turn. The TRUTH is that you ALL have the capacity to BE "Christ-like."

"You are all Messiahs" - Yes, I like that approach. Open-source religion that validates everyone's subjective experiences of the unexplained parts of their lives, rather than an arbitrary grouping of insiders and infidels.

Just purely curious ShyLady... as I am with all christians.. about something: Do you know that the Jesus story, the story of a crucified saviour, goes back thousands of years before the Jesus Christ version was written down and then later literalized by Ancient Rome? Many savior-type sun-gods preceded Jesus Christ: for example, the Aztec God, "Yiacatechutli" (see my avatar). This image is from a Pre-Columbian Codex drawn before Christian influence in the New World. And there are older ones.

What does a christian believer say to this?

Cross Well this Christian believer,

says that, yes, I do know that the Jesus Christ' story goes way back longer than the version written down, and later messed up by Ancient Roman rulers... However, I am the kinda christian believer who believes that, although I am powerless to do anything about what people more powerful then me do, I can only put my faith in God, Himself, and hope that he guides me where He wants me to go. That includes what I find to learn about and even if I get to learn about it, considering my circumstances, and it includes what I can remember and keep in my head about what I am learning...

You know, I have had a crazy idea since I was a kid, it seems so silly now to believe it, since I love learning about space science, but I ued to wonder if God was in the sun. I asked my dad that a couple of times and he would laugh at me and then give me a long lecture as to why God wasn't in the sun... I have been interested in Egyptian, and South American anciant religions, and they are very fascinating to me still. I know that something was going on in those anciant times, in certain places, that are strange and are a total mystery. I have no idea what it could have been and have heard some of the stupidest ansers by so-called smart people, but I just prefer to leave mysteries of the past where they belong. If anykinda proof is found to support whatever information there is about the anciant people then fine, I will believe it...

As far as I'm concerned, God has made Himself known to me personally, and I caan't give that up just because people can explain it away, or they can try to make me think I am stupid for my beliefs. I feel God and personally I think it is very awesome that God even cares to show Himself to a backwards country girl like me...

Let me quote from the web page of a band called The Illuminenaughty:

Quote:
Enter the Darkness and
there you will find the Light!

We are messengers of the Apocalypse. There is an Apocalypse in us all. It is deep inside your own mind, ready to come alive. And it is made manifest through darkness.

I agree with the spirit of their message. Thus, I can say that I need a messiah. Not only that but my messiah is ME. Also, imho, your messiah is YOU.

My Messiah is my awareness of being creator and demonstrator. My father and I am one.
