Well, Rex, it seems that you have found your answer, or at least not the counterargument. I pretty much have the same view as you. I think part of the problem could be that most people don't read the Bible or anything else, but take other people's word for what the book says. People don't want to put the effort into finding the truth, so they will believe anything.
