Butterfly Negative Thoughts

While holding an Intenders Circle in my home we were explaining the guidlines to a new comer and one of her questions was, "What constitutes a negative thought?" We came to our own conclusion. I was just wondering what you all thought.

Good question. I think as we grow, we realize that we have alot more negative thoughts than we may have thought. For someone who is just beginning, and I include myself in that spiritual kindergarten category (!), I would say that any thought that embraces lack or limitation is a negative thought, whether it's about ourselves or others. We can't tackle them all at once and at first, it's good just to observe the ones we have over and over again. One of my biggies is "There's not enough time." It's very easy for me to see how that thought robs me of inner peace.

Something else I'm trying to learn is that it's not helpful to judge ourselves (or others) for our negative thinking. We should pat ourselves on the back for beginning to work on it. When the thought comes up, we can simply remind ourselves that it is not the "truth" and can be changed if we so desire. We can also "forgive" ourselves for not wanting to change some of our negative thoughts, the ones we think protect us from harm. If we judge ourselves for any negativity we might have, we're just piling one negative thought onto another.

When we begin to let these thoughts go, it's like lifting a burden from our minds, but as Emmanuel points out in the following quote, negativity is not all "bad" because it's how we learn.

Quote:
Look to understand your negative feelings as a loving mother would understand a confused and frightened child.

When the denial of God within you is being challenged, it is a most propitious time of your life Do not deny the part of you that is in darkness or it will manifest itself again.

When you become aware of misjudgement, of ill-timed, ill-conceived thought and action, when you recognize your desire for vengeance, your anger or unforgiveness, that is the time for self-congratulation. Your new insight now allows you to handle these things in a far more conscious way. It is an opportunity. A door has been opened. A light has been turned on.

I know this went way beyond your question - sorry for the sermon!!! (Oh well, there's a negative thought......hahaha) !

Great question Rev.KathyV and great answer Angeleyes : )

I believe negative thoughts are by products of a belief in negativity. I am working on removing that belief and have noticed less and less negative thoughts. I think if we look too deep into them (why, how, when), we again place judgment upon them, which in turn leads to more negative thoughts.

Dear Rev. KathyV,
Feel free to use or share my post as you desire. By the way what is an "Intenders Circle"? I also hope you will still be posting what your circle came up with : )

This is a tough question to answer. There have already been two great responses. I usually term a negative thought as one that harms, me or someone else, even if that thought is never expressed. Because the thought occured the energy, even if just a small amount has been released into the universe.

I think I am starting to get slightly carried away.

Butterfly

An Intender Circle is a concept that developed as a result of What the (Bleep) Do We Know and The Secret. The underlying belief is that our thoughts and actions create our reality. Positive thoughts create positive results and negative thoughts create negative results. We meet on a weekly basis and verbalize our intentions for our life and everybody mentally and with their heart supports each others intention with the belief that with faith those intentions will come to fruition. By asking for things we desire in our life we allow the universal mind (God, Mother- Father God, Father or what ever title you wish to give it) the oppurtunity to open doors that will allow us to achieve the things we want but we need to watch and not ignore opurtunities that are staring us in the face. By concentrating on negative things or stating things in a negative way you are opening the door for more negative to enter your life. Concentrating on positive things allows more positive to enter your life....like a chain reaction if you will.

Basically we came to the same conclusion as Rev Kelly, that negative thoughts or actions are any that cause harm to yourself, someone else or to the universe, and yes it is even if it is not expressed. However you should not be severe with yourself when you have a negative thought because I have heard and read that is has been proven that positive thoughts are by far more powerful than negative ones.

Science has proved that everything, in its basic core, is energy, that energy in one small atom of your body, is powerful enough to light a city..literally..it's the basis for atomic theory. With that energy we can either create a positive existance or a negative one. Hope I wasn't just rambling and that that made sense.. lol. We have had obvious results from our circle. If you want more detail on how it works I would be glad to share it.

Thanks for your answer and yes, please do share the results that have occured through this group : ) A few more questions, if you don't mind: Do you put out the intent and let it go, or do you use "tools" such as visualization, affirmation or vision boards to support the manifestation? How many are in the group and for how long have you been doing this group?

vivamis123 "Thanks for your answer and yes, please do share the results that have occured through this group : ) A few more questions, if you don't mind: Do you put out the intent and let it go, or do you use "tools" such as visualization, affirmation or vision boards to support the manifestation? How many are in the group and for how long have you been doing this group? "

One example of something that occured which was amazing to the person that it happened to was quite simple. She set an affirmation that she is more confident at work. A couple days ago while sitting at work, someone she works with came walking by and looked at her picture and out of the clear blue said "You look so confident"...a small thing perhaps..or was it? It affected her and she has been acting more confident even at the group meeting!! I thought it was wonderful.

There are currently eight of us in the group and it started out with four. We have been doing this about 4 weeks now. We put out the intent and do not question how we will get results because it is not up to us how we get answers, we just know we will. We do have to keep our eyes open for the answer and not walk blindly by it. Sort of like that old joke about a guy that was in a flood. He prayed for God to save him. He sat the and a boat came by to rescue him and he said no thanks God is going to save me..duh!!! He drowned and when he got to heaven he questioned God about why He didn't save him and God told him he did....he sent a boat. What did he think the boat was there for and how did it get there...God or the Universe sent it..but because he was expecting God to litterally pick him up and move him he didn't see the door that had been opened to him. The Universe will open the doors but we still need to take the action. And actually sometimes just verbalizing it will be enough.

After each person states their intentions we al sit quietly and visualize that the thing has already occured and the end result..lots of positive energy..lol. Some of us do have Intention boards (visualization) to keep our minds in a positive form..we also verbalize our intentions daily..the spoken word is powerful. These are said more or less like an affirmation. They are said in a positive way. For example if some one is trying to gain more courage, instead of saying "i will not be so afraid." they would say, I am couragous!! or instead of "I intend to rid my body of this high blood pressure" they would say "I am whole and healthy mentally, spiritually and physically!"

One of the most important parts of the process is gratitude. Before each person states their intention they state at least one thing they are grateful for in their life. Gratitude for what you have sets a mind frame which is very important. Hope this helps...
