Rev. Kelly, aren't most of these messages abundantly evident in our time? Can we reason for ourselves the value of love and kindness without having to rely on primitive examples? Why exactly do we need religions to reinforce these concepts? And why do some religions keep imposing a judgmental BEing who will threaten and sentence humans if we do not learn annd act upon these lessons? I am going to be bold here but in all the interactions I have had with evangilicalhumanist he has never been a man who has difficulties with the messages I quoted from you but I have noticed that he does not appreciate the way that some religions depict a Supreme BEing.

What is wrong with primitive examples? If those examples are what speak to a person and light the desire to learn those things, it is a good thing. If someone is inspired by a more modern example, then so be it. I don't think that the messenger is the important piece, which you seem to be stuck on, but that one learns the message.

I know that religion has been used for war, discrimination, intolerance, etc. in the past and currently by some. But I don't believe that was the original intention. Some people have and always will find a way to gain and use power against other people which are seen as weaker. It is unfortunate, but untill all learn the lesson of love, then it will continue.
