I think Cleanliness in this context is meant to BE perfect, yet cleanliness/perfection goes hand in hand with everything and everyone.

I think cleanliness is respect. It's respect for yourself, others and everything around you. Recycling is also respect. It's respect for yourself, other and everything around you. The old saying goes, there is nothing new under the sun. Maybe recycling is all we have.

I tend to agree with both of you. It seems to me that if one believes in God (or Gods) then they should be respectful of God's creation. Even if one is an atheist/agnostic, then it would be quite humanitarian, imo, to let others also share in what the land supplies.
Therefore, to me, it's both a political/economic decision, but also a religious one as well. One of Gandhi's quotes that I've long been fond of is that one who believes that they can separate church and state doesn't really understand religion. I'll also add that they probably don't understand politics as well. The two intertwine, and even though we hopefully should have as much freedom of (and from) religion as possible, a complete separation is illogical imo. Shalom, Vern |
