Some Christian congregations turning to Scientology

Quote:
TAMPA, Florida (CNN) -- Some Christian congregations, particularly in lower income, urban areas, are turning to an unlikely source for help -- the Church of Scientology.

Scientologists do not worship God, much less Jesus Christ. The church has seen plenty of controversy and critics consider it a cult. So why are observant Christians embracing some of its teachings?

What do you think? Is it possible to embrace the teachings of another religion, especially one that dismisses the most central tenets of your own, and still claim to be faithful to yours?

Today in the west, it's become more customary, for better or worse, to "window-shop" religious beliefs or non-beliefs. Religious leaders are often dismayed because people will not necessarily follow the "party line" when it come to what they believe or what they decide to do or not do.

Part of the reason, I believe, is because people are more aware of varying beliefs today, and they sometimes may find certain teachings that differ with what they've been led to believe more logical or enticing. And I can relate to this personally as I was more easily led by my nose when I was younger than I am today. And I tend to think many of us will read some posts here at I.F. that will influence how we might think on certain items.

Shalom,
Vern

I think it's possible to embrace the teachings of other religions and in California it's not only possible it's not uncommon. I live near a Scientology property that has a ship deck with rigging on the property by the main road that goes through it...also many sport naval outfits..all this when we are over a hundred miles from the ocean.

Some years ago though Scientology had some legal problems that were widely publicized.. Members were apparently being encouraged to inflate their financial picture to obtain loans to take lessons which are offered in Scientology... Also there were tax problems.. which led to some bad press I'm afraid.

No, it is not possible...unless all paradoxes are possible.
