Some Pastors Embrace Scientology

Quote:
Some Christian congregations, particularly in lower income, urban areas, are turning to an unlikely source for help -- the Church of Scientology.

Quote:
Two pastors who spoke recently with CNN explained that when it comes to religion, they still preach the core beliefs of Christianity. But when it comes to practicing what they preach in a modern world, borrowing from Scientology helps.
Rest of the articla found here.

Is this the way to modernize Christianity?

No. It's classic switch and bait. I find this very disturbing. I want to know where those pastors learned their theology.

I feel that the Christian church has become fossilised - even ossified - over the centuries in it's insistence that it is the true religion - it has ignored and demeaned other religions and belief-systems -- and that these actions have been to it's own detriment.

A religion - in my view - should be a vibrant, adaptable entity; capable of taking on board beliefs from other religions and incorporating them into its own beliefs - if they will encourage its own adherents to lead a more spiritual life.
Encouraging its adherents to live a more spiritual life should be the entire aim of any religion, in my opinion, rather than telling them that "You must follow our teachings and beliefs.... Or. Else."
