Does God Ever Change His/Her Mind?

I saw this question today.
Quote:
If we pray for a person to heal or to have a change in circumstance, aren't we asking God to change his/her mind?

Would it be better not to pray and trust in God's wisdom?

Only if it was God who inflicted the illness or bad circumstances on them in the first place....

It is hard to say that all circumstances are created by God, remember free will. Since we tend to create most of our own troubles, I don't think it is wrong to pray for help or a change to take place.

I am with Aged Hippy.

The belief in a God who answers our prayers, is the healing factor. It is always as we believe. When we come to know our self, we would not ask for anything God has already given us, but assume our birth right: I am.

Gandhi had a somewhat similar question when he thought that if God was omniscent, then why ask anything? Doesn't He know already? Therefore, he felt that prayer was more for us, in that it allows us to contemplate what decisions and actions that we may do that may be most moral.

You, and Gandhi, hit it right on the head.

No, because...

... we wouldn't trust it, but doubt and fear. And that doubt and fear would consume us.

I would say that, this is problem for the monotheists. As a polytheist, I accept that the gods are neither omnisiceint, nor omnipotent. And while I may turn to them for help, I do not expect them to solve everything.

And, that said, I don't really get caught up in the "praying to the gods for solutions" thing, anyway. Prayer, from a polytheist perspective, is much more about praise, or about ecstasy (real or feigned), or about meditatively putting oneself in alignment with the natural order/will of the gods.
