I think that a mature adult is quite capable of deciding whether or not to accept medical intervention (in a life-threatening medical situation) in accordance with their own religious beliefs, but i don't think that because medical intervention is against the wishes of a child's parents, that the parent's wishes and beliefs should necessarily be forced (or coerced) onto a child in similar circumstances.
This question also raises another question which i have never seen addressed (nor - for that matter - even raised): If it is considered 'wrong' (in a Spiritual sense) to attempt to shorten one's own life (i.e. suicide), is it also 'wrong' to attempt to extend one's life via medical intervention?
And that last question is one which i freely admit has troubled me deeply. It raises all sorts of other questions and issues.
