Excellent point, gluyadys.

I'm very suspicious, and wonder if this is a power thing, or an attraction for men, who seek to justify it by citing ancient practices. The women who agreed to be interviewed seem a little robotic to me. There's no sense of individuality or personal expression about them or their homes. And the need to be shut off from the rest of society is just one big red flag.....

I just hate it when people manipulate religious belief for their own lascivious ends especially when the victims are young and naive but it is wickedness in any case.

I think polygamy is fine as long as it's done by choice between consenting adults. The problem with Texas is what was happening to the kids there...they aren't old enough to know about sex and the duties of marriage. They have no comprehension of what marriage fully entails, or how to assume adult responsibilities. And I think it's impossible to say that if these girls are being married off at such young ages, that there is no sexual behavior involved in these marriages. No kid that young has even a passing understanding of the gravity of an adult sexual relationship--they're all pubescent or pre-pubescent. They don't even understand themselves! So, yes, the right thing was done by removing them from the situation.

I am going to hedge my bets that even an elderly adult really doesn't contain this understanding either.
