Does God Rule The Universe?

I saw this today.

God rules the universe, but gave humans free will?

Any comments?

It's an odd sort of "rule" that allows the subjects to do whatever the heck the please. If a few humans went so far as to decide to blow up the entire planet, thus ending all of the life (that we know of) that God is said to have created, what would we then think of His "rule?"

This is one of those places where, for me, religious belief in God leads to hopeless contradictions, but belief in a natural universe does not. It is probably this, more than anything else, that leads deists to believe in a god but not one that "rules."

God does rule the universe...as we are all a part of that God we rule the universe...we have free will as we are that creative force.. a part of that universal consciuosness..God is not a being but a consciouness or energy...which is in all of us...

This becomes a deeply confusing way of thinking about things. Not least of my difficulties, or course, is that it seems to deny the existence of a separate god as anything other than the sum effect of all that's going on.

And, of course, it also implies, that everything that has ever happened, caused by human beings (such as the Holocaust, for example) has been the will of god.

No the holocaust was not the will of God...it was caused by nonawareness of people trues self...those not remembering the connection....There is no seperateness all things are connected as one. Creation is the effect and creation is going on all the time...by humans who are either doing it consciuosly or not...creation is a result of thought and negative thoughts can create just as easily as positive thoughts. As humans become more aware of that connection that make more consciuos effort to make a more peaceful existence...when they have not realized that connection that is when things like the holocaust happen. There is a consaciousness change going on in the world whether people see it or not..WE are on the brink of mass consciousness....It is very confusing, Allen, but that does not make it untrue.....

In order to rule it...God would have had to create it. If God is changeless...how could God have created that which changes?

I do not find any evidence that God rules the universe, nor do I find any evidence there is a God or Gods. However, as I've said many times here before, nor do I assume there are no Gods.

But I do tend to believe in a type of "spirituality" that pervades all of the cosmos that often is cited in Amerindian and spiritualistic concepts. This is sort of a "camaraderie" between nature, the cosmos, and us. And all of these items, and maybe even more, possess the essence of each other. After all, we are not only what we eat and drink and breathe in, but also we're part stardust as well.

Instead of seeing ourselves as somehow being above nature, maybe it's better to see ourselves as being part of nature. It's humbling I know, but maybe we need some of that as well.

Metis, that sounds like a good description of God.
