You all pull things out of a hat so quick and write on a subject....that bag of hot air ..imo...has his place and makes the balance somewhere for someone...there is something of his noise being made being heard..and the doers doing that with the scenario what ever it may have been...any observer or partaker in a situation needed the whole ...to get the balance...does this make sense... ...the statement above about pulling things from a hat...it is a compliment case it is misconstrued...

I think possibly you would indeed. Martin Luther King certainly did, and modeled the struggle of his life very much on Ghandi.

A story about Ghandi....

A woman paid a visit to Ghandi, and while speaking to him she asked him to tell her son, who had accompanied her, not to be eating sugar it wasn't good for him.

Ghandi told her to bring her son back next week. She didn't see the sense in this but went back home.

A week later she brought her son in to see the old man, and Ghandi told the kid to stop eating sugar it wasn't good for him. When they left someone asked him why he had waited a week to tell the kid something so simple and Ghandis reply was, 'Because last week i was eating sugar.'

Ben Kingsly, of all people, starred in a movie about Ghandi and did a brilliant job of it, you should look for it at the rental store.

It is not that the "bags of hot air" do not "have their place in the scheme of things", it is an observation on society where we see that there are those who parade their beliefs around publicly and make such a big deal about them and how great they are in such beliefs, yet they are generally useless to others when a crisis hits. This is common, but not all boasters fit that catagorization though, some can actually follow through with their big talk.

So did Cesar Chavez, Bishop Desmond Tutu, Lech Walesa, and so many others.

I highly recommend the book "The Essential Gandhi" edited by Louis Fisher, and it's a compilation of notes from his speeches and writings arranged by topic. Or, if you haven't seen it, watch the video/dvd "Gandhi", which was an excellent and accurate movie made about him-- it's a must see.

Just a personal note, I have long considered Gandhi to be my "mentor" even though I do not agree with him on everything. He was by no means "perfect", and willingly admitted as such, but he was truly a remarkable person. A close friend of mine spent an entire summer in India studying Gandhi and the effects he had on Hinduism and other religions, and he came back a changed person.

Thanks for sharing! I hadn't heard that one, but it certainly sounds like something Gandhi would say and do.
