Judaism Sages & Prophets

Gandhi felt that there are likely to be sages and prophets in all societies since he could not reason why God would neglect any people throughout the world. However, he felt that a "prophet" was not so much one supposedly selected by God as much as one whom taps into God as being Compassionate and Just, and also that we are to do the same. This leads me to two questions:

Do you agree with Gandhi on this?

If you say "yes" to the above, are you willing to be involved with prayer or meditation or learning opportunities with those who are of a different religion or philosophy than your own?

I agree with Gandhi. This forum is about meditating with other belief systems.

Redbird The Eternal Covenant:

I dunno about "taping into God"... but maybe reflecting God's attributes.

but I do agree with the first part of the opening post

"...there are likely to be sages and prophets in all societies since he could not reason why God would neglect any people throughout the world"

There is what we Baha'is call the Eternal Covenant that God will never leave humanity alone without Divine Guidance.

Yes, I agree with Ghandi. I don't believe in prophets being "sent" by God.....since I don't believe in a God outside of us. I think those that help stop suffering in this world....are prophets.

If there is something out there that wants to communicate with us, I can't imagine it picking and choosing, talking to one person or group while ignoring another.

Judaism

I enjoyed your responses (probably because I tend to agree with each of you ). Let me ask a follow up question:

Are you willing to participate in services in religions other than your own religion/philosophy?

I kind of avoided answering that question......eventhough I see the Truth in all of them in their essence.....I have sometimes a hardtime accepting someone elses translations of the Truth.

Without going too much into detail, I visited a church last week...the priest said some things that could not be translated into a language I would agree with. Instead of joining them or fighting them...I feel it is better for all parties involved, for me to not repeat a visit : )

I would go to Church
I would sit and listen and converse
I would laugh within at the insane ideas
But I would not mock my brothers

You would not insult or argue with someone who was insane
You would hold out your hand and offer them friendship support and Love

Words are not a requirement to teach the Truth
