The way a friend described it to me once is like this:
Religion: comes from the same root as "ligament," and other similar words, so it has to do (at least the original meaning) with reconnection with some sense of sacredness/reverence, etc. Spirituality: comes from the idea of some sort of other reality, with spirits/non-corporeal beings, etc. My friend says he is always certain of religion in the sense of reconnection and not always so certain of spirituality, because of the assumptions one must make regarding other dimensions of being/reality that have non-physical beings, etc... -Ben ![]() |
