And I dont think that the hundreds if not thousands of Biblical Scholars, Pastors, Translators and ordinary Christians are all homophobic bigots. This is not a harsh judgment and this is not perpetuating a myth but it is a Biblical Truth.

Its nothing personal, I dont hate gay people in fact I used to sleep with men, but I believe that the Bible says it is a sin.

I appreciate you coming out to us. That must of took a lot of courage. Just kidding! I do appreciate you having the confidence to admit something so personal though. I respect you for that. I ,on the other hand, will never come out of the closet! Did I just out myself with that last sentence? Darn!!!

Why do you think God makes sexual preferences a sin? It seems kind of weird to me that something they don't have much control over can be a sin. I can't choose my favorite color, ice cream flavor, or sexual preference. I feel like being straight is hard wired in me and there is nothing that would make me prefer men. If God was to change his mind and make being straight a sin then I wouldn't know what to do. I couldn't get married because when I would be sleeping with my husband I would be fantasizing about women and I would feel almost raped if I slept with a guy. The only moral option I would have is to be celibate, single, lonely, and jealous of all the people who found love. What moral options do you think gay people have?

Thats because the Bible has been altered and revised to fit mans standards while judging others. Besides that it is dependant on how you interpret it. Just because a Christian for example may interpret it that way doesn't make it so. Jesus did not write the Bible and the people who did wrote it many hundred years after the fact. It is a bunch of stories written by some people giving their versions of things..which brings about the fact that there are many contradictions in the book...so basically it's a matter of pick and choose!!

I dont know the mind of God !

I have his Word (The Bible) and sometimes even some small revelations from God.

The Bible is not THE Word of God. Why would He keep His word from humans for so long? Nature is the Word of God. The Bible is a book about God that men compiled. As with all books some information is correct and some is incorrect.

well I disagree.

this statement from Revival Fires: Vision and Values sums up what I believe about the Bible, not that I am part of their church

Quote:
On the Authority of Scripture

We believe in the Divine inspiration and authority of the 66 books of the Holy Bible as the complete canon of God's testimony to mankind. We are committed to esteeming Scripture as the very Word of God, inerrant in its original form. We do not accept any doctrine which contradicts Scripture. We understand that there are many practices and doctrines that are considered orthodox which do not contradict the Scripture, but which are not directly addressed in His Word. We are committed to giving liberty in the belief and practice of these teachings, but we will endeavor to maintain the simplicity of the biblical testimony and its stated practices as we are given grace to perceive them. We do not accept any spiritual experience as having its source in the Holy Sprit that does not have a precedent in Scripture. We do not accept any revelation, vision, dream, prophecy or discernment as truth which contradicts Scripture, or cannot be verified by it. We do not believe that any other writings have the same authority as the canon of Scripture.

GlorytoGod:

I for one do not have a problem with what you are posting in that you obviously have much faith in the Bible and the issue of homosexuality is definitely classified as a sin in it. Even though I disagree with your opinion on other grounds, your choice is indeed a logical one based on the paradigm you are coming from.

On top of this, what you also have said impresses me as well in that you have stated that your approach is to "hate the sin and not the sinner". So, the bottom line here for me is that I have no bone to pick with you.

The problem with "Biblical Truth" is most don't follow the Bible to the letter. Do you send your wife away when she is menstruating? It says in the Bible a woman should leave camp when this happens.

Do you eat pork?

The people who wrote these laws were fanatics about cleanliness.

The saying. "man shall not sleep with man as he does with a woman" has been interpreted by biblical scholars to mean no "anal sex". This would go along with their attention to cleanliness. Also, this is a male to male statement and does not include women sleeping with women. Therefore, that would lead someone to believe this original law had nothing to do with "homosexuality" for which there was no term. I wasn't even a concept. They thought it was heterosexual men having sex with men.

The bottom line is we can use the Bible as having pointers, but we need to think for ourselves.

I understand that you don't know the mind of God but he should of at least explained to us in his word why he considers certain things to be wrong. Otherwise, it is only wrong because he says so.

So, if gays change their preference to being straight(repent) an confess that they had this preference then they will be forgiven?
