Secularism

Definitions of secularism.

Quote:
exclusion of religion from public affairs: the belief that religion and religious bodies should have no part in political or civic affairs or in ...
Creationism - Main - Definitions

The view or belief that society's values and standards should not be influenced or controlled by religion or the Church; Derivative

We had a member who was consistently discussing secularism as though it were the scourge of society. This stance bothered me because this is a forum where all belief systems are welcome. When this member was told that we don't single out any one belief system as the truth, we were accused of not being an interfaith forum.

What are your definitions of secular and secularism and how do they effect society? I maintain that it's not the belief systems that are a problem, but rather what people say about the belief systems. What do you think?

Secularism to me means that religion does not interfere with the law, and the law in turn does not interfere with religion. IOW, it's the separation of church and state. It's a good thing.

My definition of secularism: The benefits and services of a society are made available to all individuals regardless of their beliefs, and the law code of the culture neither favours nor opposes any particular creed.

Secularism: To govern the physical world and not the spiritual world.

Judaism

If one is a pantheist, then there's no such thing as something that is secular. If one is an atheist, then all is secular. As for me, whatever is, is.
