That no doubt is the case Art. (unless you count the Mythology that "evovled" into various religions, as science fiction of that day and time,)

Perhaps I should have asked, because SciFi is such a popular genre of entertainment, how much does, or can, the story line influence a viewers personal core beliefs?

Because of the format of SF, you can get messages across that would otherwise not be accepted by the mainstream. Philip K. Dick was amazing at getting across his political messages, as was Robert Heinlein. they would have never gotten away with it in a "regular" story.

Does anyone remember the Fox television series "Alien Nation"? It was about racism, but because the race affected was alien, they could take the message much further than if it took place in the "real" world. That is one of the things I love about SF.

Good authors are putting forth messages in SF ranging from politics to spirituality to social issues of the day.

A good futuristic novel (although I wouldn't really label it SF) that is spiritually based (and I happen to know the author - he is friends with my sister-in-law) is Resolution 786. The full name is "Resolution 786: A Novel in Three Acts Telling Cuneiform Tales of Love and War and God and Lust and Loss" - it is available on Amazon.
