Ick, God and politics. ICK!
Anyhow, for what reason would God want us to invade another country? If it is based upon religion then I would think that God would understand that s/he had many names to many people and it wouldn't matter. (Also if it were because of the different means of worship that would put the US into the bracket of practicing ethnic cleansing - shudder) If it were because of oil, wouldn't that be something along the lines of coveting, and isn't that a sin, regardless of the fact that oil is not someone's wife? Would God really want to dispense with THOUSANDS of innocent lives? Personally, I have been calling Bush a WMD for years.

I have to be non-partisan on this and so have no remarks to make about the candidates..
Iraq is a special place for Baha'is and part of the history of our Faith and someday there will be a place a pilgrimage in Bagdad when peace and order are truly established there but as to the war Baha'is believe international law and world order are of upper most concern and should have the priority. - Art

This thread has reminded me of the Mark Twain piece called, "The War Prayer". I'll dig it up and post it as a new thread for possible related discussion.

I know with absolute certainty that God knows nothing of war
God IS Love There is no other reality when we choose to look through His eyes For those that beleive that God supports war - Imagine what that God is now capable of - taking sides - at some point you will fall short of that God At the root of that God is Fear and that is the opposite of Love That is the opposite of God, and that cannot be It is Insane thinking |

Totally agree.... it is insane to think that war can make peace, that separation can bring unity, that it's the "other guy" that is at fault. In making someone an enemy, we become the same. Quote:
In general, it's no different to make an enemy of Iraq, Iran, our boss, a family member, or President Bush. It's all the same dynamic. If we look for an enemy, we'll find one. |
