Macrobiotic Diet

This is sort of a companion to the Hunting thread.

A Macrobiotic diet, albeit a fad diet in Hollywood, is associated with Zen Buddhism. There evidently are 7 levels to this diet the final one resulting in the participant eating just cereal.

Do you think you can reach a higher spirituality by the way you eat?

Barring, of course, blatant fasting as that would be a short cut means to enlightenment.

I think your diet can effect your mental state. I don't know if diet can make one more spiritual.

I guess if someone believes it may make them more spiritual, who am I to say otherwise?

Here's the general pattern for most Jewish holidays: we were attacked, we barely survived, let's eat!

Needless to say, sometimes-- no, make that often-- we overeat during our holidays. Even Passover, which was supposedly a meal eaten in haste, is now our most elaborate holiday meal of the year.

However, Wendy, I'm not exactly certain what you hand in mind with your above question, so my response may be out of context from what you expected. Is there any example(s) you can give us?

From the synopsis that I read online, this type of diet, if followed implicitly, and not just used to lose weight like many starlets do, but used in the spiritual sense, has been known to cause potentially lethal malnutrition.

I would be wary of any fads which the "stars" follow.

The idea behind macrobiotics from what I know is that you should eat foods which come from your area of the earth which are natural and unprocessed.
This will give you the necessary elements or stuff to be able to cope with survival in your climatic zone as the plants having lived and survived there have synthesized the necessary compounds to enable you to cope.

Diets are cleansing.
Sometimes a person feels really awful when doing a cleanse as there is a lot of crap which needs to be scrubbed out of their cells.

A proper macrobiotic diet for North America would be a traditional aboriginal diet (not a modern aboriginal diet).
Such a diet is most difficult to do as the foraging necessary is almost impossible for most people.
Plus our soils are depleted of essential trace elements and minerals, so even if you eat a moderately "healthy" diet from the stores and restaurants you still are getting only a fraction of what people used to get even 100 years ago.

Soil remineralization programs have been implemented in various places, but are not widespread enough.
Too many farmers have faith in the agri-chem cartels and their propaganda.
There are some real dope pushers, making a junky of the earth with all their anyhdrous ammonia. The more you use it on a patch of ground, the more it needs to produce a crop.
Sure they look big and green, but the plants are empty of the essential elements necessary for life.
The USDA had knowledge of this and published it as far back as the 1930's.
Time to wake up.
Those who control the food, control the population.
