To me, Buddhist teachings represent the ultimate in lives based on reason (and experience). Simply put, if actions lead to suffering we should stop doing those actions. If actions reduce suffering we should continue those actions. Of course, the devil is in the details which is one reason the Buddha taught mediation and contemplation practices so we could learn how to better discriminate between skillful and non-skillful actions.

I don't think reason and belief are mutually exclusive. Belief can be based on reason and experience. Believing that the sun will rise tomorrow is a very reasonable belief.
