Metis, I have the same short coming, so I am just as guilty. I also totally understand what you mean.
It is great that you are here. You have shared so much wisdom.

Human nature........
I do the same thing with my kids. When everything goes along smoothly, I don't respond. But when something negative happens, I've got plenty to say. It's just my ego (fear) that my kids are wrecking my furniture, lifestyle, personal time, etc.... I noticed the same kind of "motivation" when I joined my first forum. While I wanted to contribute to a positive understanding of religion and spirituality, I found I was most interested in a good, juicy argument! I had to laugh at myself. And my thought was: the ego is alive and well in everyone. BUT, everytime we recognize it, it's loses some of it's power. Of course, I agree with everyone else: you are LOVED here! You have such insight and a fanatistic sense of humor. And personally I've learned alot from your posts. |

Metis..
I enjoy your posts and you generally have an equanimity that is refreshing. - Art ![]()

Where's my cilice?
Quote:
No apology is necessary, metis .... none whatsoever. May i - as a friend - make a couple of suggestions? Well.... i will anyway. ![]() 1: [a] "I have a bad habit (one of many) whereas, if I agree with someone, I rarely respond but, if I disagree with someone, I'll often post a response." Suggestion 1: If you agree with someone, feel free to post something like 'Oh yes, I agree with that!', or something along those lines.... .... but it might be a bit boring for the rest of us.... [b] "Why do I do that?" Suggestion 2: Stop analysing yourself and beating yourself up about what you perceive to be your shortcomings, the only result of this will be to saddle yourself with guilt. Take it from an expert who has 60 years of practice and a degree in auto-flagellation. Supplementary suggestion: If you do follow my Suggestion 1, bear in mind that if the rest of us do find it a bit boring - you can then beat yourself up about that. ![]() What is a cilice? I for one, am glad to have had the opportunity to (somewhat) get to know you and appreciate your input, good, bad, indifferent, but hey, this is a debate forum and if we would have our feelings hurt if someone was to disagree and say so, then that person should go and grow up some.
Not a single one of us has the last word (even though we all think that we do from time to time). All we have are our cherished speculations and this is a place to test them and shape them and maybe revise them. |

Metis, friend, this is a debate and discussion forum, is it not? I would be quite bored if every post read "yes, quite!" and "indubitably!"
Even though I may not see eye-to-eye with any of you on many aspects of spirituality, religion, ethics....um...politics....and...well, everything, I still get a kick out of our chats. So, don't worry, I don't feel bad if you don't state that you agree with me. I'm pretty sure we all agree on something, including our love of discussion and the search for knowledge. ![]() |

LOL Mooomooo you are too funny.
I accept your apologize Metis. I however tend to do the opposite. I say "tend". I value and encourage that which I want to see more of in this world. I do the same with my kids and dog. I feel the more we emphasize the things we value...the more we create of that.
