A Complaint Free World - 12th November 2007, 12:51 AM

Today I heard Rev. Will Bowen speak about his program "A Complaint Free World" at the Unity Church.

He started this program in his Unity Church in Kansas City. The idea is to not complain about anything for 21 days in a row. In doing so you change your thought patterns and draw more positive things to you. He hands out purple bracelets. Every time you complain you switch the bracelet to the opposite wrist. He talks about verbal complaints being the one's you watch. He says instead of just griping go to the person you need to go to and make some changes.

This program is now in 20 countries worldwide. He has given out 4.6 million bracelets. He wrote a book with has been out only a few weeks and is in it's third printing. He has been on Oprah, Good Morning America and several foreign countries.

Quote:
Your thoughts create your world and your words indicate your thoughts. When you eliminate complaining from your life you will enjoy happier relationships, better health and greater prosperity. This simple program helps you set a trap for your own negativity and redirect your mind towards a more positive and rewarding life

I like that Idea. Just one question: When do you switch the bracelet back or do you leave it on the other hand, sort of like a reminder and punishment?

My wife and I joined a Unity Church 12 years ago and enjoyed and prospered by the teachings of Charles and Myrtle Fillmore ever since. When traveling we seek out other Unity Churches and fiind the same serene setting and fellowship regardless of where it is, or the size of the congregation. It always feels like home in a very real sense. There is quite literally, IMO, nothing else like it.

My experience with Unity is very positive. You aren't told you are a sinner and will go to hell. You are told how to be successful and how much potential you have.

The main point of the complaint free world program is to focus on the solution, not the problem.

I think this is a very positive way to create change in the world. It reminds me of the poem (I think I posted it here) that goes:

Watch your thoughts, they become your words
Watch your words, they become your actions
Watch your actions, they become your character
Watch your character, it becomes your desitiny.
~Anonymous.

I have really liked this poem for a while and think that it reveals a great, but basic truth.

"Philosophy is a walk on a slippery rock
Religion is a smile on a dog."

My partner was a sunday school teacher at Unity. I have been there a few times and have enjoyed it very much. My impression however was that Unity Church was too metaphysical for my taste.

I found Rev. Bowen's book in the library and ordered two bracelets before I had finished reading it. This is day eight of wearing the bracelet and my complaining is certainly changing. I live alone and am not working at the present time so I have limited opportunity to complain to other people. However, when little things go wrong like dropping something, having a wire jump out and almost trip me, my computer acting up, trying to make a left hand turn in heavy traffic -- I tend to have a short burst of anger and come out with a four letter word. Well, after a week, I've mostly learned to keep my mouth shut at those times and often instead of a burst of anger there's just an 'oops'. Yesterday, I only had to switch the bracelet twice which is a lot better than the first few days.

I must confess to having a head start on not complaining. For the past year I've been using 'Thank you for everything. I have no complaint whatever.' as a nightly prayer. After a really trying day I have to repeat that prayer a number of times before I get enough gratitude to be able to let go of any complaints that I have so that I can go to sleep with no complaints.

Christ Church Unity - Kansas City, MO has over two years of recorded sermons including two on the purple bracelet.

I dunno about you; but I sincerely think it's impossible for me to not complain. I also don't believe in this "law of attraction" BS either...cuz if that was true, I'd be richer than God himself, living in Hawaii somewhere on the beach. Which is the life I've always wanted. If only I could quit working, I'd cheer. No more "jobs I hate working to buy sh I don't need". To quote a favorite movie of mine.

A life so rich I'd never have to work another job again would be a miracle, and against the universal powers that be that say that I'll probably never be rich, nor live a life without a crappy job.
