Afterlife

Hello,

I am on here to ask about the afterlife beliefs of Afro-Caribbean religions, namely Rastafarian, Santeria, and Vodun. And maybe Candomble. Any input is helpful.

Rastafarians don't believe in an afterlife. There is no concept of hell. Ethiopia is their heaven on Earth.

Santeria, Vodun, and Candomble all have afterlife concepts. They all had a strong belief in reincarnation until they were westernized and influenced by Christianity. Vodun has a belief that a being can be brought back to life after being in the grave a while. There is a belief in Zombies.

Really? I recall hearing an interesting story regarding the origin of dredlock hairstyling...it was so that God could grab their souls by the hair and pull them into heaven. Strong dreds ensured a safe journey into the afterlife. I'm going to have to do some research on this...
