According to Newton's laws, energy is neither created nor distroyed. Going off of that, energy has always existed, though perhaps in different forms. Spiritually, that would be to say that God "lent" some of His energy to the formation of the universe. I find that spiritually powerful, because obviously he wouldn't use a major part of his energy, and all the energy that we come into contact with is contained in the universe, so realizing the total energy of the creator is beyond the mind's ability to grasp.
