Clay I think they meant to be a symbolic form of the earth as in all elements.
I don't think anyone can deny that we are made of various elements and molecules. When you read ancient stories and such you have to really interpretate symbolic forms of thinking.

Muslims believe we are made from Clay ,so when some one dies his/her body is returned to clay by burial in the earth/ground.
Muslims believe Jesus was created from the breath of Allah, hence He was lifted up to Heaven alive. He will return before dooms day, will marry have kids & then die and be buried in Mecca (Saudi Arabia) next to Prophet Muhammad . |

Literally, no. But in my theology, Spirit rises up through all previous manifestation in a graduated sense taking a bit of each level with it as it transcends and includes. In a very general sense this means Spirit moves up through matter, then life, then mind, then soul, then back to Spirit. Since many identify dirt or clay with matter, I have no problem with the symbolism. Of course I could argue we are all made of the quantum field since that evolves before clay, but it doesn't sound quite so dramatic!

Actually it's star-stuff. We are made of the very same elements that make up the sun, the earth, and the stars. And as Whitman said, "Ev'ry atom belongs to me/As good belongs to you." And given the way our bodies are recycled after death, we all probably have a few atoms in us that once belonged to Genghis Khan, Christ or Mohammad.
But sorry--no Elvis yet! It hasn't been long enough ![]()

Adama and the red earth...
That our bodies were made from clay also connects us to the humble earth that we walk on...so when we die our body returns to the elements and the ego which vaunted itslef above the earth is humbled... Also all the emperors and great conquerers resolve into the same element as the stable boy and the thief.
Another thing about the name "Adam" which I think you could look up the Hebrew meaning Adama it means or refers to red earth... - Art

Clay is notable by its absence in the ancient Scandinavian creation stories. We have a void separating an icy world from a fiery one; giants (Titans?) emerging from sweat and from ice; this planet created from the body of the giant Ymir; and the first people Ask and Embla created from driftwood on a beach. No clay, though.

Of course, none of this addresses the issue that some people seem to have been made from Silly Putty...
