Naam

Jap,80

nam tham na jat jakar rup rang na rekh

He has no name, no dwelling-place, no caste;

He has no shape, or colour, or outer limits.

He is the Primal Bing, Gracious and Benign,

Unborn, ever Perfect, and Eternal.

He is of no nation, and wears no distinguishing grab;

He has no outer likeness; He is free from desire.

To the east or to the west,

Look where you may,

He pervades and prevails

As love and affection.

Night and day, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord; imbued with the Lord's Love, by Guru's Grace, you shall find Him. ||3||

truth_seeker,

It would have been more interesting if you had made a point or posed a question that might further a discussion.

One thing that strikes me about the Jap (and Japji) is that Naam is described only in terms of what he/she/it is not. This is of course not uncommon in religions, but seldom brought forth as clearly as in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib (aka Adi Granth or SGGS, the Sikh Scripture).

Contrasting the use in some other religions, Naam/Wahiguru/etc. is described for example as "our father and mother", very clearly describing the Supreme Power as something not to be compared to humans. That makes a beautiful foundation for the Sikh theoretical and practiced notion of equality between genders, races, social standings and whatever else you might think of.
