first...i so understand that the bulk of people who use what ever substance are doing it for escape...

i was just trying to share an opinion that ...in doing the substance of choice...the person in this state of relaxed../ sometimes anxiety....they are who they really are or would like to be.....in a drunken state we can express to the person the next day you should have seen what you said or did...and they have the excuse to say well i do some crazy stuff when ..high, drunk or what ever else ...i am merely saying that state is the hidden reality of some of who they are...not that they know...or did it to have a spiritual experience .....the person who has the drink after work to take the edge off after a day of work..that person knows that they like who they are when the drink has helped them to relax.....that is different then the anxiety ridden frustrated person who says give me a drink and ends up drunk.....
so now we have years later the person who has matured and grown ...looks back at there own life to analyze it and can perhaps find out some things that could at this later date be construed a path in the direction of spirituality...not done for this purpose at the time...but then i think any all acts we do are being helps us grow that way...oh anyway...i feel like i am yet again talking in circles..so i will drop it...just thought i would give it a last shot of what it was i was trying to express and from responses i am thinking it was not perceived the way i was trying to say it...and then again it may have been perceived just as i was trying to get it across and it is not agreed with and hey thats cool...anyway...ok...i am going...

Hi Sendy,
It was a good point which you made and I did pick up on it the first time.
Should have said so.
In any case, it seems that this topic is not so popular to talk about here, even though drugs and religion have been hand in hand since time began.

I was not surprised by the answer.
But I am still thinking about the question.
Does someone really think he/she can become spiritual by using drugs?

I believe that it is possible for entheogens to induce true mystical experiences. However, it seems obvious to me that
1) it is better to learn to do this without such a crutch.
2) while entheogens are sometimes effective, they are also unreliable.

I would agree with that.

The place for such things seems to be with those troubled souls who have huge perceptual/conceptual log-jams and need some mental dynamite to blow clean the doors of perception.
But this cannot happen in a haphazard manner and needs to have guidance from competent, benevolent and compassionate persons.

Yes. It was due mostly to an LSD experience in college that set me down my life-long spiritual path. But, as soon as I began the path, there was no more desire for the drug. It was nothing more than a catalyst. Your description is perfect.
