Taoism The essence of Taoist meditation

When a taoist came upon a zen buddhist sitting zazen, he decided he would sit with him and meditate for a while. A half an hour later, the taoist felt it was time to move on and did. But the zen buddhist had to stay there, for 8 hours, no matter what happened.

What does this say about taoist meditation?

That one doesn't have to be doing the thing called sitting still in order to do the process called meditating.

I'm not exactly sure, but I think my friend Master Vigil knows. I hope he tells us!

Btw, Happy Birthday MV!

Think about your answer and the preconceived notions we have of what is "meditation." Does the Tao stop moving for even a second? Why then should a taoist?

As I understand it the cycles of nature are important to Taoists.
So meditation, like all things, has a cycle. It seems to me in this story the Taoist was following his cycle for mediation and the Zen practitioner his cycle.

Each did what was best for them and their practices.
