Cool Is our belief in the Divinity of Man simply our own arrogance?

Unity is known as positive, practical christianity, and so you do not often hear about sin in a typical Unity church. However, the concept of sin can certainly be found within the writings of one of our co-founders Charles Fillmore. In the Revealing Word, Charles returns to the original Greek in which the word for sin meant to miss the mark. Charles declares that it is "falling short of divine perfection. Sin is man's failure to express the attributes of Being...life, love, inteligence, wisdom, and the other God qualities."

Actually, there is no absence of good within us. However, there can be an absence of an awareness of the good that is within us. Jesus said God is good. God is also everywhere present. That means that God (good) is within you and me and everyone everywhere! However, we can forget that this good is within. We can become separated from an awareness of this presence. It doesn't make it any less there, we just are not experiencing it. It would be like the sun which is always shining, though we may not see it because the clouds are covering it. The cloud covering our good is our own forgetfulness.

Of course, most of us were taught growing up that we were not good, but that we were sinners. And so we grew up identifying with this mistaken view of ourselves. So how do we reconcile ourselves to the good that we are? According to Charles again, we do so by "going into the silence. Error is brought into the light of Spirit and then transformed into a constructive force. "Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind" (Rom. 12:2). " This is why it is so important to take time each day for prayer and meditation. This is our opportunity to connect with and know the Truth about what we are!
