What are our responsibilities as stewards of the earth?

What are our responsibilities as stewards of the earth?

What are Unity’s – and your – thoughts about our responsibilities and duties as stewards to the environment, stewards to the physical world in which we live?

One thing that is clear to me is that our world is getting smaller and smaller. Amazing views from space make it clear that we are one race, one people, humankind sharing one planet. The other thing that should be clear to anyone paying attention is that our world is changing. Scientists tell us that global warming is happening now! Let us look at our role as global citizens from the perspective of love and power rather than of fear!

I saw a program on television this past week in which ice core samples from Antartica reveal that we seem to be entering into the 9th time in the history of our planet in which the glacier ice melts and our planet transforms. One thing about physical existence--everything changes! Now we have a choice. We can continue to see life from the perspective of separation and fear believing that what each of us does individually does not change anything of the whole. Or we can remember, as quantum physics indicates, that we are all wholly connected to one another. What I do affects everything else. It's the idea that if a butterfly moves its wings across the globe it has an effect in some way on my life.

I was watching another program last night about American Airlines. Like all airline companies, AA has lost billions of dollars in the last 5 years. However, AA has opened up to the idea that by saving $25 here and there, it can add up to billions of dollars! So what does this have to do with the question of the day? It is a reminder to me that if each of us finds small ways within our own lives to be better stewards of the earth, a responsibility given to us by our creator as described in Genesis, we can make a difference in the transformation of our planet. I know that change is inevitable. It is happening now. However, when I approach it from the place of empowerment and love, I allow the change to take place with much less suffering.

So once again I set forth the challenge...what can you do to be a better steward? Find one way this week. Set your intention to take action on that one way for the next 30 days. This will give you time to incorporate the change in your life and make it a habit. Then, 30 days from now, make another change. By the end of this year, you will have done 12 things to become a better steward of our planet. I guarantee you WILL feel more peace and joy within knowing that your actions are in harmony with God's will for ever expanding good in your life.
